Alex Chua is our Chief Executive Officer who has 17 years of working experience leading engineering teams to build and commission large infrastructure projects as well as providing engineering support for utility operations and maintenance. He is well versed with electric reliability compliance requirements (FERC, NERC, WECC, and CAISO) because of his involvement with drafting teams, industry working groups, and client audit preparation.
Prior working at Kano Consultants, Alex worked for both private and public utilities for more than 15 years. He has worked in all aspects of the power industry including transmission, substation, distribution, and renewable energy integration. He is passionate about helping clients that share his values. He empowers businesses to tackle the challenges of climate change and build a better electrical system that serves everyone.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys playing golf and spending time with his two sons.
John Ott is a Senior Consulting Engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. He has 10 years of experience in electrical power, including work in substation management, transmission line asset management, and California’s electric vehicle charging network. John served as a subject matter expert for substations at Modesto Irrigation District and was responsible for transmission line asset management compliance tasks as a Standards and Strategy Engineer at PG&E.
In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, as well as making music and playing golf.
Kevin Kozminski is one of our Principal Engineer. Kevin holds a master’s degree in Electric Power Engineering that he obtained at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He has over 25 years of experience in electric transmission planning and assisting in the implementation of transmission projects. Kevin enjoys addressing system challenges and witnessing his innovative ideas come to fruition.
Before retiring from PG&E, he spent a significant amount of his free time resolving system issues through analysis and on-site visits to explore viable solutions. In his retirement, Kevin appreciates the opportunity to explore various cities and experience their unique sites.
Mike Lane is Kano’s Senior SCADA Consultant who brings over 14 years of expertise from Pacific Gas & Electric, where they served as an Expert SCADA Specialist. With a background as an Enterprise Network Administrator and qualifications such as a Network Specialist diploma from Capilano College and an MCSE certification, Mike has extensive experience in managing critical systems. Previously working for a Regional District, Mike handled diverse responsibilities, including networking IP radios for remote telemetry and configuring expansive SCADA systems. The passion for ensuring the safe and reliable telemetry and control of industrial systems motivated Mike to join this industry.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys skiing in the nearby Tahoe Mountains and pursues amateur radio as a primary hobby.
Sowmya Bellam is one of our Associate Engineers. She got her master’s degree in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University. She has been working on renewable power and solar power for over 4 years now through various college projects. She is always eager to learn and has had experience in working with Generation, Transmission, Protection, and Operations Engineering. She is now preparing to get a Professional License in the field of Electrical Engineering.
Her work experience at Kano allows her to broaden her knowledge in the fields above mentioned. She likes to travel, and her free time likes to hike, explore new places and different kinds of food
Robyn is one of our Electrical Engineers. She graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Washington State University. Her background in academic research includes 3-D printing applications at Washington State University and lithium-ion battery technology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her experience in these fields offers a unique perspective to our team.
She is enjoying being back in California and spending time with friends and family. Other interests include music and learning new skills.
Sean is one of our Associate Engineers. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from California State University, Chico. His goal as an engineer is to help develop a safer and more sustainable electrical grid. During his time at Kano, he has worked on facility ratings for PGE and SVP.
In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, watching esports, and going to concerts.
Ruojia is one of our Electrical Engineers who is recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University. During his four years in college, he took courses such as Electrical Energy Conversion and Sustainable Energy, which inspired him to serve the electric power industry. He believes that Power Systems Engineering plays an essential role in our daily life, and it has a huge influence on our future. He is very excited to gain experience and broaden his knowledge in this field here at Kano Consultants.
In his free time, he loves to do photography and play video games. He enjoys collecting diecast cars and action figures. He also loves to play soccer with my friends.
Nicholas Mabee who recently graduate in Electrical Engineering from UCSB after transferring from Foothill College. The reason he chose the electrical power industry is that he is deeply intrigued by its potential and consider it to be the industry of the future. This is precisely why he opted for a profession as an electrical engineer, as he firmly believes that his abilities align perfectly with what he perceives as the forthcoming era. He hopes to ultimately contribute to improve modes of renewable energy.
Some of the things he enjoys doing in his free time include golfing, watching football (49ers fan), video games, anime, biking and trying new foods.
